Cult.fit ::ideal:: for.extroverts

Cult.fit is a powerhouse of energy. It has a great set of highly motivated athletic trainers. However, it is quite regimented and orderly. Like a cult. Patrons are to do only the exercises listed on the board. I was politely asked not to do skipping because it wasn’t ‘on the list.’ Also, no getting on the mats without shoes even for Yoga. But, overall it’s quite a sociable place.

You can book a class from the Cure.fit app. Only caveat is to cancel an hour before if you’re unable to visit. There is also a feature called dropout, which allows to drop out till the last minute. Honestly it is confusing. There is a reward in the form of FitCash* for attendance so I am not sure if there is a penalty for not attending/cancelling.

The App experience

Schedule and exercises

The schedule starts at 0600 hours with last classes ending at 2100 hours.

Strength and conditioning,

Boxing

Yoga

Dance fitness

HRX** workout.

Cult.fit is an energetic futurech* gym. The Indian version of Jane Fonda workout tapes**. Curefit app is fluid, FitCash and decent showers***. The app is where there is growth. If the app is able to build stickiness then startup has great potential. It is trying in the form of free rewards in the form of FitCash. Now it is a matter of time to see if users stick around.

Too much of a cult?

Cult is loud! And it likes to be that way. At the end of each class you are asked to ‘huddle up’ and yell, ‘We are cult!’ I protested, in vain. After a boxing class, I spotted a young woman giddy with happiness. The trainer goes (think jazz hands), “you know, what this is.” She knew!****

People looking for a form of exercise with more discipline should look for better options. But, if its general fitness with a social touch that you are looking for then Cul.fit could be for you.

*Cult.fit is trying to be a the GoTo place for all your fitness needs. They have food, apparel, physical and mind exercises. The app allows you to track your BMI, daily habits and allowing the patron an understanding of their fitness levels. You can earn cult points (equivalent to one rupee) I am not sure how (one instance mentioned in para 2 but they are called fitcash.

**HRX is a brand trademarked by Hrithik Roshan. This brand is steadily growing. Previously, it was known to have partnered with Xiaomi for health bands. As one might recall, Xiaomi had executed a community led video. The video featured actor Hrithik Roshan, Xiaomi fans and Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India Spokesperson. At the time of writing, the band is unavailable on Amazon (11951 reviews) and one was left on Flipkart.

***Jane Fonda was phenomenon of fitness in liberalised America. Reference: https://youtu.be/fF9hff5NpOM It is by no means a slight. Jane Fonda brought about a revolution in ‘modern fitness thinking.’

***The centre I visit was facing water issues yesterday. Something about the motor.

****I believe the exact response was, “eeeeeeeeeeee!”
